Defelax is a laxative used to treat constipation. It may help to increase the number of bowel movements per day and the number of days you have a bowel movement. 


Defelax ( Lactitol monohydrate) is a type of sugar. It is broken down in the large intestine into mild acids that draw water into the colon, which helps soften the stools.

Composition

Each 5 ml of Defelax syrup contains:-


  • Lactitol monohydrate 66.67% w/v
  • It is available in Delicious Orange flavour.

Precaution

Take Defelax as prescribed by the doctor. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller quantities than prescribed.


Side effects

  • Diarrhoea
  • Excessive bowel activity
  • Nausea or Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain and cramps

  • Flatulence

Low galactose diet:

This medicine should be administered with extreme caution in patients requiring a low galactose diet. This dietary change is usually recommended for patients having a rare genetic disorder known as galactosemia.


Diabetes:

This medicine should be used with caution if you are diabetic. Appropriate dose adjustment and more frequent checking of the blood glucose levels is recommended while taking this medicine.


Other laxatives:

This medicine is not recommended for use along with other laxatives especially when treating the symptoms of liver failure.


Antibiotics and antifungals:

This medicine should be used with caution if you are taking any antibiotic or antifungal medicines. The efficacy of lactulose may reduce when taken along with an anti-infective medicine.


Electrolyte imbalance:

Use of this medicine can cause an imbalance in the levels of potassium, magnesium, and other electrolytes in the body. It should be used with caution in children and patients suffering from any electrolyte imbalances.


Pregnancy and breastfeeding:

Alcohol:
